The
Nova Phonomena
DESCRIPTION:
The Nova Phonomena is a complete phonograph preamplifier with RIAA equalization that amplifies the output signal of a phono cartridge, either moving coil or moving magnet, up to a nominal line level. The Nova Phonomena may be used with a receiver or an integrated amplifier. If you use separate components, a line level control unit (preamp) is required before the power amp, since there is no independent volume control for the Nova Phonomena. The Nova Phonomenas power supply is internal and connects to the wall with the supplied wall mount transformer.
FEATURES:
Built in California, the Nova Phonomena is a battery-powered phono stage designed for flexibility and performance. Based on the discreet dual mono circuit developed by designer Michael Yee for the SuperNova, the Nova Phonomena has rear panel user-accessible switches for GAIN and INPUT LOADING. The power supply features two rechargeable internal NiMH dual mono battery packs, and a Smart Sensing auto recharge feature which instructs all AC and charging circuits to automatically disconnect when listening in battery mode. The unit also features a proximity detector switch on the front panel to indicate charging status and mode.
TROUBLESHOOTING:
BATTERIES/CHARGING SYSTEM:
1) The battery charging system may need several charging cycles
before the Nova Phonomena is fully happy. Because the maximum
charging time is limited by software and the batteries are so
high capacity, the battery packs are actually not fully charged
for several cycles. The unit will still operate perfectly, but
the indicator light will not indicate a full charge for several
cycles.
2) There have been instances of the battery packs coming loose
during shipping. We have addressed this by adding a third battery
strap to the units. If your batteries have come loose, reconnect
them as per the diagrams on the Battery Replacement
page.
3) Batteries will eventually need to be replaced (they average
about a four-year life span). See the Battery Replacement page for
further details.
SYSTEM NOISE OR HUM:
With the Nova Phonomena set at very high volumes and no record
playing, there exists the possibility of a very slight hum coming
from the unit. This is normal, and will not be evident under
normal circumstances with a record playing at reasonable volume.
It is not unusual to have a little noise in an analog-based
system, especially at very loud playback levels. Most prefer this
to the sterility of digital.
